MUM

MUM

The first and most deeply imprinting relationship of all, is with mum. Through the ‘dual unity’ of the womb and early infancy, most of us start out indivisibly intimate with our mothers - a condition crucial to survival and to wellbeing. We have much to be thankful to mothers for.

Ideally, that maternal relationship is nurturing, loving and supportive. One that leaves room for each of us to breathe and grow into our true shape. In actual reality, other elements and impacts are inevitable. Perhaps aspects that were cloying, judgmental, sticky, overbearing, needy, frosty, unavailable, invasive, suffocating, controlling, cruel - or any of many other conditioning impacts real-world parenting bestows upon us.

Later comes puberty and the journey of separation from mum - a crucial process once effected for many young men through elder-led rites of passage, but through which most young men in today’s society have to navigate alone, as best they can.

Our relationship with mum matters. For us to function as true adults with healthy connections, this primary relationship demands our attention. The alternative is to see the world, to some extent or other, through distorting filters of our conditioning and act accordingly. The good news is that we don’t need to have our mums here to delve fruitfully into this territory and bring us into better order with our own mothers, women at large and with the world.

It’s not all negativity: we’ll be celebrating all the positivity that comes with mothers and mothering too. We’ll also be making space in our explorations for the mother archetypes, the Good Mother, the Great Mother and for Mother Earth. We will also be making space for you, whatever you bring, however you turn up here. Above all, Mandorla events offer the opportunity to be in meaningful, authentic community with men, with all the nourishment, depth and richness that brings.

Drawing on long decades of experience in menswork, we will use a variety of tools including inquiry, groupwork, ritual, bodywork, time in nature, the unique power of men in community and the alchemy of the moment.

Fear and anxiety are part of every man’s experience.

These days there seems to be plenty out in the world to start them off: Wars, climate change, cost of living, pandemics, health care, threats to democracy, political polarisation, social division…. the list is long; add your own.

The inner world meanwhile has demons the equal or worse of anything found out there. Spectres, threats, deficiencies, judgments and much more, fit to make the blood run cold and send men running for distraction, oblivion.

Turn about to face it though, and - like all inner content - our fear can be a portal to deeper levels of ourselves, and a key to freedom if we’re willing to engage and scratch beneath its surface.

We’ll explore this material together, bringing as a team our long decades of experience in menswork to the inspiring site in the mountains of Snowdonia where we have gathered across the years. In that beautiful encampment we’ll use a range of tools - inquiry, groupwork, ritual, bodywork, time in nature, the unique power of men in community, and the alchemy of the moment - to explore the territory of this material and ourselves. It is enriching, soulful, spirited, transformational work, aimed to support greater inner fullness and freedom for and as men.

As on every Mandorla event, we welcome and respect each man just as they are with whatever they bring; there is no expectation and no prescription for what, who or how to be.
